Vlad III Dracula aka Vlad The Impaler (born in Transylvania in 1431) gained notoriety in the 15th Century in Romania, due to his brutal and torturous methods of punishing his enemies by impaling them on wooden stakes in the ground and leaving them to die. He was also the inspiration behind Bram Stokers famous character, Dracula.
